Buy Some Flowers
Here we are in the midst of a holiday weekend and most of us are stuck in our houses. We personally celebrate Easter in our family and for me the holiday is all about family, friends, and Spring. But this year is obviously different. No friends, no family … at least not in person. It is still the start of Spring, however. For that we can hopefully smile.
Me, I’m doing ok amidst this crisis. Sure my stress levels are high and my anxiety is at record levels, as with most of us. And I’m not generally one to be stressed or anxious. But I know that we will get through it, one way or the other.
I have found one thing that is helping me day to day: fresh flowers.
Now the truth is that I’ve always loved having flowers around the house. My husband is a master at it, so I’ve gotten used to having them around most of the time. Dare I say that I’ve probably taken them for granted.
I don’t take fresh flowers for granted anymore. In fact I am relishing in them. Even buying them myself when I do grocery runs. But I’m no where near as good as Christopher, which if you’ve read my book you’ll know why!
Fresh flowers have become a symbol of hope for me. A symbol of beauty that reminds us that we will continue to grow and flourish once this whole mess is over. A symbol of renewal … something we all need.
So as we celebrate a holiday weekend or just any ‘ole weekend, I encourage you to pick up some fresh flowers. Any kind. Especially if you live alone. Put them in front of you while you are working. Have them at the table for dinner. Take a quick smell of them over your cocktails. You’ll be amazed how they brighten your spirits and make you feel just a little bit more alive. And allow you to breathe. I hope you can all breathe a bit this weekend.
Wishing you all the best that can possibly be this weekend and every weekend. What’s your experience? JIM
