"Both Sides Now" #MusicMonday

I’m going to bring back a little tradition of my own here, where I spot light a favorite song every Monday. For my book Out and About Dad, I had a playlist that drew a lot of attention and commentary. Everyone loves music and we each have our own soundtrack for our lives.

So today, I’m going to feature “Both Sides Now,” which is a song popularized (and written) by Joni Mitchell although sung first by Judy Collins in 1968.

When Joni Mitchell sang the song, it became one of her biggest hits.

One of my favorite versions is from Linda Eder, who is BTW one of my favorite vocalists.

But then along comes Josh Groban with a killer version as well, as a duet with Sara Bareilles … gorgeous.

“Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way”

At this stage in my life, I’ve looked at most things from both sides now. Family, friends, career, social life, ambitions, barriers … from all sides. But the best of all is “to say ‘I love you’ right out loud.” Indeed.

Happy #MusicMonday. What’s your experience? JIM
