Google Chrome

I was watching Glee the other night (yes, I'm still obsessed) and was completely struck by the new commercial for Google Chrome.

You probably know that Google launched a new web browser to compete with the likes of Internet Explorer, Foxfire, and Safari.  Don't know how well it's doing, but if my blog traffic is any indication then it's catching up with Safari.

The advertising is fabulous.  The campaign features every day people who have used the web to do extraordinary things.  It uses stories that would never have happened without the web.

The introductory story?  ItGetsBetter.org -- the organization started by Dan Savage to help teenagers struggling with "coming out."  Struggling with accepting themselves and struggling with the abuse, ridicule, and isolation that they are experiencing.  I actually wrote a blog post about it here.

The way that Google Chrome told the ItGetsBetter.org story was so compelling.  It showed how the phenomenon started, just as an idea from Dan Savage, and then grew and grew and grew as celebrities, influentials, and just normal every day people (gay and straight) got involved.  Because of the web.

The end of the story brought a tear to my eye.  "Dan Savage, Messenger."  And then, "The Web, It's What You Make Of It."  So true, each of us uses the web just a little differently to live our lives and to tell our stories.  Some use it to do really amazing things.  Google Chrome nailed it.

Not only is it interesting to see a search engine launch a web browser, but also that it uses traditional television advertising to drive traffic to it.  Hmmmm, integrated marketing anyone?  And who said tv advertising is dead?

What's your experience?  Jim.
