The Biggest Marketing Moments of 2024

Source: Amazon.com

Every year, at the end of the year, I do a count down of the biggest marketing moments from #10 to #1 … 2024 will be no exception because we had some pretty exceptional moments in marketing this year and they are worthy of a repeat look and a little celebration. And perhaps some learnings we can carry into next year.

Some have challenged me on why I would celebrate the work of other agencies and of other brands where I don’t work … to which I respond, “that’s my brand.” I celebrate the work of our entire industry across the board in the hopes of lifting us all up and in the hopes of us all learning and growing from each other.

“Marketing is a spectator sport and we can all learn from each other.”

Here goes …

#10: Rick Astley for Specsavers at Cannes … a big winner at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity for the PR industry and I was so proud to be there to salute my colleagues!

#9: The Portal from Dublin to New York … a lesson in scenario planning!

#8: Espresso Martinis … yes, they had their moment this year at home and at the bar.

#7: Baccarat x “Emily in Paris” … the show is a cultural phenom and the collabs are endless with Baccarat front and center on the show and online.

#6: Louis Vuitton Flagship in New York … the brand taught us that every part of the marketing mix is important, even a construction site.

#5: Beyonce for Levi’s … crossing all sorts of genres and time zones and social issues.

#4: “Tortured Poets Department” … this year wouldn’t have lived without Taylor Swift, so the launch of her new album and the continuation of her Eras tour has to make this list.

#3: Jaquar Re-Invention … the brand got lots of people talking that is for certain no matter what your take!

#2: Snoop Dogg at the Olympics … by every measure, this year’s Summer Olympics was a huge success but this breakout star took us all by surprise!

#1: “Wicked,” The Movie … The songs, the dance scenes, the storytelling, and of course the marketing collabs all resulted in what is now the biggest movie adaptation of a musical ever (surpassing even “Grease”). And it’s just part one! Just wait until next year!

That’s my list! What’s yours? What’s your experience? JIM
