The Met Gala
The first Monday of May every year …
The Met Gala was last night in New York City and many may not realize that it’s an annual event to raise funds for the Costume Institute which is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “Costume Institute” as in fashion. The Met Gala raises a lot of money as you can imagine as individual tickets are $75,000 and a table of ten is $350,000.
It’s nickname is “The Oscars of the East Coast” because of the celebrity attendance and the incredible fashion artistry that is displayed on the famous stairs leading up to the museum. It is by far fashion’s biggest night and it’s always the first Monday night in May.
It’s organized by the magazine “Vogue” with its editor-in-chief Ann Wintour who has been in charge of the event since 1995. The Costume Institute is the only part of the museum that is responsible for its own fund raising and hence this mega-event. There are co-chairs every year and this year Anna brought in JLo, Bad Bunny, Zendaya, and Chris Hemsworth. Good mix!
If you want to read a bit about this year’s theme “The Garden of Time” that reflects the current exhibit, then click here.
It’s a pop culture milestone every year, and I feel like every year it gets more and more coverage. And honestly it’s fun to celebrate the creativity of fashion. Makes me :)
